SAND MEN is a short documentary film by multiple-award-winning filmmaker TAL AMIRAN for which I composed the score. The film gives the audience an insight into the realities of life for a group of Romanian sand sculptors working on the streets of London. NECULAI, AUREL and RAJ describe the hardships they face every day as they use their artistic skill as a means to support themselves and their families in a foreign country. As we hear their stories alongside footage of their amazing sculpture craft, it is difficult not to be moved by their enduring hope in the face of extreme difficulty.

The film made it's debut at the 2017 One World Romania International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, before going on to be selected for the London International Documentary Film Festival, American Documentary Film Festival, Austrian Film Festival, Wales International Documentary Festival and the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival among many others. During it's festival run, SAND MEN won the following awards:

  • Winner Best Documentary Short - Sarasota Film Festival 2018
  • Winner Best Drama Award - Social Machinery Film Festival 2017
  • Winner Special Mention Award - Austrian Film Festival 2017
  • Winner Special Jury Award - Gdansk Docfilm Festival 2017
