I’m pleased to be able to share my new composition AGGRESSOR; the result of a new collaboration between myself and UK-based sound effects company IF A TREE FALLS.
To celebrate the launch of their new sound effects library MILITARY BUILDINGS, IaTF shared a copy of the library in exchange for a music composition. A great deal for me right? A free, high-quality sound library in exchange for doing what I do everyday anyway! There was a catch, there always is…
I had to create everything in the piece of music using only the sounds featured in the library, which would mean dissecting, stretching, looping, tuning and destroying the heck out of the sounds in order to create some all-new instruments to compose with. Needless to say I accepted the challenge, being the adventurous soul that I am, and here is the result: AGGRESSOR.
My composition relied heavily on my regular line up of composing tools; KONTAKT and BATTERY from NATIVE INSTRUMENTS for creating my new instruments, PAUL’S EXTREME SOUND STRETCH for creating tonal elements from the found sounds, and a host of effects plugins. Reverb-wise I’m in love with EVENTIDE AUDIO’s BLACKHOLE at the moment, and I got a lot of mileage out of STEINBERG’s stock distortion plugin QUADRAFUZZ on this track.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with IF A TREE FALLS and I still think I got an amazing deal; an awesome new sound library and a new track to top it off. They painstakingly plan, record, edit and package their sounds, making them a dream to use for audio professionals such as myself. Hopefully we’ll collaborate again on their next release, I could do with beefing up my SFX library!
