It’s always great when the positivity and excitement of a bank holiday weekend carries on into the following week. Today I’m feeling that positivity after another recent project of mine went live on TV yesterday!

This month I’ve been working with Manchester-and-Birmingham-based production company KOALA TV on a new sponsorship campaign for KIKKOMAN on DISCOVERY’S FOOD NETWORK UK.

Running until August 2020, the brand campaign sees KIKKOMAN sponsor daytime content on the FOOD NETWORK TV channel (SKY channel 140 and plus-one-hour on channel 240). Working with KOALA, we produced 12 x 10” sponsorship idents which repurpose some of the strong visual elements from KIKKOMAN’s 2018 UK TV campaign. My work on the project included design of new sound effect tracks, as well as mixing and mastering the final audio tracks to UK broadcast audio specifications.

With KIKKOMAN keen to be on air over the summer months, we only had a month between brief and delivery. Thankfully our collaborative efforts meant we went live early with a great end product and a happy client! Here you can see a selection of 4 of the new idents.

The idents all feature the 1965 track ‘I Will Love You’ by RITCHIE BARRETT, which was originally released on U.S label SWAN but has a distinct MO-TOWN/Northern Soul aesthetic. It was this choice of music track which influenced my decision to run a lot of my sound design through an emulation of a classic-sounding plate reverb with a long decay setting. This helped marry the sound design to that spacious, PHIL SPECTOR ‘wall-of-sound’ aesthetic which is synonymous with so many famous records from the 1960’s. You can listen to ‘I Will Love You’ in full below, and I’d highly recommend you do!

It was a pleasure to work with KOALA again on another great production with two fantastic brands. KIKKOMAN are no strangers to my kitchen so it felt nice to work with a brand I know and love already. If you’re after culinary inspiration, check out FOOD NETWORK on SKY Channel 140 and enjoy a healthy side-order of my home-cooked sound design.

Thanks for reading and check back soon for more updates on my recent work.
